“With differential” means a breakdown of white blood cell types is included. It does not mean a wholly different specimen, a universal cancer screen, or an automatically superior test for every purpose.
Total count versus composition
A complete blood count describes red cells, white cells, platelets, and related measurements. A differential adds information about categories of white cells, commonly neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, and basophils.

Percentages and absolute counts use different denominators. Do not compare a percentage on one report with an absolute count on another as if they were the same measurement. Preserve units and column labels when sharing the report.
More detail still needs interpretation
White-cell findings can change for several reasons, including illness, medicines, and other circumstances. The pattern may help a clinician investigate a question, but an isolated high or low entry does not name its cause. A differential cannot be read as a list of diseases assigned to five cell types.
The sample is generally collected from a vein. A CBC or differential alone usually needs no special preparation, while other tests on the same order may. Follow the full order's instructions and disclose relevant medicines rather than changing them yourself.
Check the exact requested panel
If two ordering pages use similar names, compare the included components and whether a differential is included or conditionally added. Ask the ordering clinician which information is needed. The useful distinction is the question the extra breakdown can answer, not the number of rows a package promises.
